Have you lived before? Are you intrigued to find out? There are many reasons for having a past life regression reading. Some people go for one purely out of curiosity, but for others it’s a serious attempt to deal with a phobia, or to release fears and anxiety. Still others seek past life regression in an attempt to better understand their life patterns and cycles of learning.
But what does a past life regression reading actually involve, and what will you experience? No two past life regressions are the same, but here’s an idea of what to expect in your first regression.
Allow Plenty of Time
Most reputable regressionists schedule between 2 and 3 hours for a first appointment. This allow plenty of time for the therapist to first get to know why you want to be regressed, so that they can guide you towards finding the answers you seek during the regression itself.
A Light Trance
You will be hypnotized during a past life regression session, but this kind of hypnosis is nothing like stage hypnosis. You will remain fully in control and aware of your surroundings, but you will enter a light trance or meditative, relaxed state, in order to allow your subconscious past life memories to surface.
Questions and Guidance
One you are in a receptive state, the regressionist will typically talk you back into one of your past lives. A common way of reaching a life is to place yourself in a corridor with a number of different doors leading off it – you choose a door, and step into a life. The therapist will then ask you to look around you, and to describe what you see, hear, sense, smell or feel. Who are the other people with you? What kind of buildings are there? What are you doing? What kind of clothes are you wearing? Are you happy, angry, sad, excited?
Through these questions you will gradually piece together a picture of when and where this life took place, and who you were.
The Moment of Death
Many people worry that during a past life regression they will have to experience the fear, panic or pain of death. You will be taken to your death moment in that life, but you will not feel the trauma – instead, you will simply observe from a safe and healing place. The point of experiencing the moment of death is that it helps people to understand the continuity of life, and helps to take away the fear of death – it’s actually an empowering experience, but your therapist will explain all of this to you in advance and will not allow you to become distressed or frightened.
Typically, you will then progress to exploring one or two other lives during your session, before heading into the spirit realms to assess what you have learned.
Into the Afterlife
During this period, you will explore the period of time you spent “between lives”. This is an opportunity for you to meet your guides, and to review lessons learned, patterns, cycle and links across your many lives. Most people find this an intensely uplifting and emotional experience.
Although many people are content with just one regression session, others enjoy several, in order to regress to different lives, and to explore the connections across their soul experience. Many people also choose to work on what they have learned in other ways, outside the regression experience, perhaps by journaling, or dream work – again, this is something your therapist will be able to advise you on.
What Does it Feel Like?
It’s common to feel at first that you’re just making things up, but as you relax more deeply into the trance state, you will no longer feel like that. It’s also very common to cry – and that’s OK. The recognition that life is a continuous cycle is a very profound thing, and for many of us, that recognition and realization releases strong, but ultimately healing and empowering emotions.
